Multi-day hikes on the Semois by kayak or canoe
Alone, with the family or in a group, sail in a canoe or kayak to explore the lost corners of the Semois for 2, 3, 4 days or more.

We offer tailor-made hikes of 25, 75km or more from Chiny. The Semois is the ideal river for learning to canoe-kayak for several days. The entire route from Chiny to Bouillon is generally done in 3 to 4 days. . The descent takes place almost exclusively in preserved natural areas.
Open all year depending on the water level. In autumn-winter, an additional day can be added starting from Tintigny (25 km, open from October 1 to March 15), giving the hike on the Semois not only an adventurous but also a sporting character, the campsites present on along the river are veritable little havens of greenery. On the water, the current is sometimes brisk, sometimes calm, without any particular difficulty.
Starting point for multi-day hikes on the Semois by kayak or canoe
Meet just at the entrance of the "Le Canada" campsite at the "Le Batifol" chalet near the Pont St Nicolas n°1 at B-6810 Chiny .
Free and easy parking is located just along the river at the entrance to Le Canada campsite.
Departures are usually between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
Price, reservation and payment
The price is 35€/day/person to Bouillon (2 people per canoe) This price includes your equipment (boat, life jacket, paddle, airtight barrel, life jacket) as well as the return by minibus on the last day of your hiking.
It is essential to reserve your canoes or kayaks in advance by email to Info@kayaklebatifol.be, especially if the weather is good.
On site we accept payment in cash or by card.
When you make your reservation, we require payment of a deposit which may be equal to 50% of the total amount. The balance will be paid directly on site
Stages and accommodation during your canoe and kayak trips on the Semois
The stages are not fixed! You can do more idleness than planned and stay at a closer campsite, or if you feel like paddling, stay at a more distant campsite. Note that wild camping is strictly prohibited.
By taking advantage of the beauty and the calm of the nature that you will cross, you will do about 20 km of river per day or /- 5KM / Hour. Attention ! The meanders of the Semois are so beautiful and long that the notion of distance is only evaluated in hours of navigation!

With a normal flow of the river and as an indication for the route in 3 days from Chiny to Bouillon:
LE CANADA campsite in Chiny sur Semoisis ideally located at the starting point of your canoe trips on the Semois. You can stay there the first night to make the most of your stay.
Refueling and return
Stopover campsites offer a minimum supply and sometimes offer meals (cafeteria). You will also find toilets for taking a hot shower. Refueling is also possible in some stopover villages but we advise you to provide enough water, food….
The return to the starting point is done with our 7.8 or 24-seater minibus. Attention: the return must be done before 6:00 p.m.
Equipment available for canoeing or kayaking on the Semois
We provide canoes adapted to the river for the hikes, but it is possible to use single or two-seater kayaks. A canoe for two people is provided to carry waterproof barrels (provided free of charge) to transport your equipment (tent, cooking equipment, clothing, food, etc.) well protected. A child can also find space in this canoe with a maximum of two adults.
Safety vests are also available free of charge. They are mandatory for children under 1.20m and for non-swimmers.
Sailing times
Navigation times on the Semois may vary. From the Pont Saint Nicolas in Chiny it is authorized to travel on the Semois on the following dates:

October 1 to June 14 departure anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

June 14 to September 30 departure anytime between 9:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Attention, depending on the flow of the Semois, navigation may be prohibited. To know the water level, we invite you to visit the following site http://kayak.environnement.wallonie.be/public/home. In the drop-down menu on the left, select “Semois” and then “La Semois, de Chiny au Pont de Linglé”.
